PGA FRANCIS TO VISIT FLORIDA STATE Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵIVERSITY, USA
The President of the General Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, will travel to Florida State University (FSU) from 28 to 30 August to deliver a lecture under the Ruth K. and Shepard Broad International Lecture Series/Engage Your World Series.
The theme of the lecture is ¡°Strengthening climate action: The role of the United Nations General Assembly in addressing sea-level rise and other climate-induced disasters¡±.
The university campus is in the heart of the state capital, Tallahassee. The PGA will address the assembly of students at FSU on sea-level rise, climate action as well as the imperative role of the General Assembly in driving global effort to foster dialogue and support global initiatives in this area.
Mr. Francis will pay a courtesy call on Dr. Richard McCullough, President of Florida State University, and hold a separate engagement with students.
He will visit Earth, Ocean & Atmospheric Sciences Department, at FSU to learn about the research done in the fields of Environmental Science, Geology, Oceanography, and Meteorology to combat the challenges posed by climate change.
While in Tallahassee, he will hold conversations with some local Government representatives and community members of Florida.
The PGA¡¯s delegation includes his Deputy Chef de Cabinet and a Communications Adviser.
Travel costs for the visit are covered by Florida State University.
The PGA and his delegation will return to New York on Friday, 30 August.

GA ADOPTS ORAL DECISION ON SECURITY COÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵCIL REFORM
The General Assembly adopted a draft oral decision under agenda item 121 on the “Question of the equitable representation on and increase in the membership of the Security Council and other matters related to the Security Council¡±.
The oral decision adopted by consensus outlines the decision of Member States over the immediate continuation of intergovernmental negotiations on Security Council reform in the informal plenary of the General Assembly at its next session. The document also outlines that an Open-ended Working Group on the subject will meet during the seventy-ninth session of the General Assembly.
The GA President, Mr. Dennis Francis, is chairing the meeting, which is scheduled to finish by 1 p.m.
A total of 14 speakers are inscribed to deliver remarks on behalf of individual Member States and regional groups.

GA TO MARK INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST NUCLEAR TESTS
Next week, on 4 September, the General Assembly will hold a high-level plenary meeting to commemorate and promote the International Day against Nuclear Tests.
The meeting will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in the General Assembly Hall.
PGA Francis will deliver opening remarks and will be followed by Mr. Adedeji Ebo, Director and Deputy to the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, and other speakers.
The meeting will be webcast by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ TV.
