The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Democracy Fund supports projects that strengthen the voice of civil society organizations, promote human rights, and encourage the participation of all groups in good governance processes. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDEF projects are typically two years long, with project grants ranging from $100,000 to $200,000. The large majority are implemented by civil society organizations in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDEF also supports a number of major global and regional projects with a normative and policy focus. In these ways, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDEF plays a novel and distinct role in complementing the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ¡¯s other work -- the work with Governments -- to strengthen governance around the world.
