In a statement<\/a>\u00a0issued yesterday, the Humanitarian\u202fCoordinator, Ramiz Alakbarov, who also serves as\u202fthe\u202fDeputy Special Coordinator and Resident Coordinator, condemned the recent obstruction of humanitarian operations by the de facto authorities in Gaza.<\/p>\n Dr. Alakbarov said that these actions have endangered humanitarian personnel, intimidated workers delivering lifesaving food assistance and disrupted life-saving humanitarian operations.<\/p>\n He noted that on Saturday, humanitarian workers were forced to halt food distributions after armed personnel affiliated with the de facto authorities forcibly entered a food distribution point in Jabalia, North Gaza.<\/p>\n On food production, the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) says it was last permitted to bring animal feed into Gaza on 4 June.<\/p>\n Since early February, the prices of animal feed in the local market have doubled or tripled depending on the type of feed, undermining recent successes achieved by FAO in decreasing livestock mortality and increasing the number of goats and sheep.<\/p>\n To protect livestock and strengthen local food availability, humanitarians are calling for renewed access for animal feed imports and for the full and unrestricted entry of essential agricultural supplies by the private sector and aid community.<\/p>\n In the West Bank, OCHA reports that today, a 20-year-old Palestinian trying to\u00a0cross\u00a0the Israeli\u00a0barrier\u00a0in the\u00a0Bir Nabala area into East Jerusalem \u2013\u00a0reportedly in\u00a0search of job opportunities \u2013 was shot and killed.<\/p>\n Since October of 2023, when Israeli authorities revoked or suspended most permits issued to Palestinians to access East Jerusalem and Israel for work and other purposes, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ humanitarian community in the Occupied Palestinian Territory has documented the killing of 20 Palestinians and the injury of more than 290 others who were reportedly attempting to\u00a0cross\u00a0the barrier, as of 6 June.<\/p>\n Palestinians must always be protected, and in law enforcement contexts, the use of lethal force must be a last resort.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" 13 July 2026 In a statement\u00a0issued yesterday, the Humanitarian\u202fCoordinator, Ramiz Alakbarov, who also serves as\u202fthe\u202fDeputy Special Coordinator and Resident Coordinator, condemned the recent obstruction of humanitarian operations by the de facto authorities in Gaza.
