Reports are coming in that a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOPS colleague has been killed in a detonation in Deir al Balah.<\/p>\n

It is understood that Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOPS accommodation was hit at approximately 11:30 am this morning.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s incident follows strikes yesterday causing damage to the premises, the location of which had already been deconflicted with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).<\/p>\n

It is also understood that there are at least five additional casualties, several of whom are very severely injured.<\/p>\n

Three of the injured Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOPS personnel worked in support of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Mine Action Service Occupied Palestinian Territory programme. Two of the injured Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOPS personnel worked in support of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ 2720 Mechanism for Gaza.<\/p>\n

Since the ceasefire in Gaza ended hundreds more people have died as deadly air strikes resumed.<\/p>\n

There is no confirmation at this stage as to the nature of the incident, however the location is isolated.<\/p>\n

What we do know is that an explosive ordnance was dropped or fired at the infrastructure and detonated inside the building. We don’t know at this stage what type it was (airdrop weapons, artillery, rocket).<\/p>\n

It should be stressed that it was not through any action removing unexploded ordinance at the location.<\/p>\n

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵOPS Executive Director Jorge Moreira da Silva said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis was not an accident, this was an incident. What\u2019s happening in Gaza is unconscionable.
\nI am shocked and devastated by this tragic news. I saw the absolute dedication of our team in Gaza last month. They and other Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ workers and premises should never be targeted. My sincere condolences to all those affected.<\/p>\n

Attacks against humanitarian premises are a breach of international law. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ personnel and its premises must be protected by all sides. The civilian population relies on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ for lifesaving assistance, they are an essential lifeline at the time of utter tragedy and devastation.<\/p>\n

I renew the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ call for the resumption of the ceasefire, for unimpeded humanitarian assistance to be reestablished and for the remaining hostages to be released unconditionally.\u201d<\/p>\n
