A GENERATION AT A CROSSROADS

Empowering Young People for Palestine’s Recovery and Resilience Palestine is home to a remarkably young population. Around 2.1 million Palestinians aged 10 to 29 represent nearly 40 per cent of the population, a generation whose aspirations, resilience, and potential will shape the country’s future.

For decades, Palestine’s young people have grown up in a context defined by prolonged occupation, recurring cycles of violence, and severe restrictions on movement and opportunity. Many experience insecurity as a daily reality, including exposure to armed conflict, military incursions and raids, checkpoints, arrests and detention, and rising violence.

Since October 2023, the escalation of violence dramatically intensified these pressures. Thousands of young Palestinians were killed or injured, while many others now live with life-altering disabilities. Education pathways have been disrupted or destroyed, livelihoods have become increasingly scarce, and mental health challenges are widespread.

Across the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), these conditions shape nearly every aspect of their lives, limiting their sense of safety, stability, and future prospects.

Yet Palestinian youth continue to demonstrate extraordinary resilience. They are volunteering in humanitarian efforts, organizing community initiatives, and supporting their peers in times of crisis. Many are also seeking greater opportunities to participate in public life and decision-making, showing a strong commitment to contributing positively to their communities and helping to shape a more peaceful and stable future. Their leadership and determination highlight a critical truth.

Investing in this generation is not only a humanitarian imperative; it is also a strategic investment in recovery, social cohesion, long-term stability, and peace. Supporting young people today will help determine whether Palestine’s future is defined by lost potential or by a generation capable of rebuilding its communities and contributing to peace and security.
