THE CRISIS IN YARMOUK CAMP

17 JÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵE 2014

Our spokesperson Chris Gunness has the following to say on the situation in Yarmouk Camp

Dire humanitarian crisis facing civilians in Yarmouk, Damascus

"No Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA distribution of humanitarian assistance was carried out in Yarmouk on 17 June. The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA team did not proceed with the mission as the security situation in Yarmouk did not allow for humanitarian operations to take place following clashes overnight.

"Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA is concerned that this latest break in its Yarmouk distribution has extended to a tenth day. The Agency demands that armed hostilities cease and urges all concerned parties to restore daily distribution of humanitarian assistance to help address what remains a dire humanitarian crisis facing civilians in Yarmouk.  Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA is concerned by the plight of the estimated 18,000 civilians trapped in Yarmouk and continues to advocate for continuous, substantial and safe humanitarian distributions to civilians there."
