The 蘑菇视频 Palestinian Rights Committee delegation visited the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, Egypt, on 19 July 2026.
The Delegation was received by the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Nabil Fahmy. The meeting followed the 2026 United Nations–Organization of Islamic Cooperation Conference on the Question of Jerusalem, held in Cairo on 18 July. Ambassador Seck briefed the Secretary-General on the outcomes of the Conference, including its reaffirmation of the legal and historical status of occupied East Jerusalem and its call for sustained international action to protect the city and counter Israeli measures aimed at altering its demographic composition, character and identity.
Ambassador Seck also recognized the important role of the League of Arab States in the 2025 High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. He recalled that the New York Declaration provides an important political framework for tangible, time-bound and irreversible steps toward implementing the two-State solution. He noted that the Jerusalem Conference sought to maintain this momentum and translate the Declaration’s commitments on Jerusalem into sustained international advocacy, including the preservation of the legal and historical Status Quo at the Islamic and Christian holy sites and recognition of the key role of the Hashemite Custodianship and the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Department.
The Chair emphasized that the League of Arab States has remained an essential regional and international platform for defending the question of Palestine, with Jerusalem at its core. He recalled that East Jerusalem remains an integral part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and a central final-status issue in any effort to achieve a just, lasting and comprehensive peace.
For his part, the Secretary-General stressed the importance of building on the growing international momentum in support of Palestinian rights, including through the expansion of international recognition of the State of Palestine. He warned that continued Israeli settlement expansion and other unilateral measures in the Occupied Palestinian Territory were intended to undermine the Palestinian presence and erode the prospects for a just and lasting peace.
The Secretary-General drew particular attention to measures targeting occupied East Jerusalem, in view of the city’s profound religious, historical and symbolic significance. He commended the Committee for maintaining Jerusalem at the centre of its work and for drawing international attention to the grave consequences of Israeli settlement and annexation policies for the Palestinian presence in the city.
The two sides also expressed concern over recent statements regarding the possible relocation of embassies to Jerusalem. They stressed that any such step would contravene relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, prejudice the final status of Jerusalem and undermine the city’s established legal status.
The Secretary-General also briefed the Delegation on the outcomes of his recent meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas, including discussions on strengthening the resilience of the Palestinian people, intensifying Arab and international efforts to mobilize support for the Palestinian cause, and reinforcing regional and international coordination to safeguard the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
