  {"id":377,"date":"2015-03-31T16:19:37","date_gmt":"2015-03-31T20:19:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.un.org\/ruleoflaw\/?page_id=377"},"modified":"2019-02-19T16:32:16","modified_gmt":"2019-02-19T21:32:16","slug":"refugee-law","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/ruleoflaw\/thematic-areas\/international-law-courts-tribunals\/refugee-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Refugee Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Respect for the rule of law and  human rights forms the essence of the protection of refugees, returnees and  stateless persons.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/cgi-bin\/texis\/vtx\/home\">The Office of the United Nations  High Commissioner for Refugees<\/a> (Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµHCR) has a mandate to provide  international protection to refugees, including promoting the accession to  international refugee instruments and other relevant human rights instruments.\u00a0 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµHCR\u2019s activities are also focused on  assisting in the strengthening of legal structures that would enhance the rule  of law, including in the area of transitional justice.<\/p>\n<p>Statelessness is  a source of human insecurity, forced displacement and serious conflict, which  may pose a threat to national and regional stability.
