The President of the General Assembly of the United Nations, H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock, and the President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), H.E. Mr. Lok Bahadur Thapa, held their fifth regular meeting on 14 April 2026, as mandated under the resolution on the revitalization of the work of the General Assembly A/RES/77/335 and A/RES/79/327.
They discussed the ongoing ECOSOC Youth Forum, noting strong youth participation, and exchanged views on upcoming meetings, including the ECOSOC Financing for Development Follow-up Forum, the Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation, and the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
They welcomed continued collaboration and coordination between the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council including through the joint special meeting under the theme ¡°From Digital Inclusion to Innovation: Advancing Science, Technology and Youth Entrepreneurship for Development¡± and a one day joint special thematic meeting to provide inputs to the midterm review of Doha Programme of Action for Least Developed Countries.
The two Presidents also exchanged views on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ80 initiative and the General Assembly¡¯s review of arrangements under resolutions 75/290 A and 75/290 B and their annexes on ECOSOC and the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
