The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met on 18 August 2022 with H.E. Mr.Jorge Bom Jesus, Prime Minister of S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

H.E. Mr.\u00a0Jorge Bom Jesus\u00a0highlighted the long-standing relationship with the United Nations, terming it \u201cexcellent\u201d. The Prime Minister\u00a0reaffirmed\u00a0S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe\u2019s\u00a0unwavering support\u00a0to\u00a0international cooperation, the advancement of sustainable development,\u00a0the fight against climate change and aims to preserve biodiversity\u00a0as well as the importance of ensuring social indicators for health, education and social protection.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The President of the General Assembly thanked H.E. Mr. Jorge Bom Jesus for supporting his Presidency of Hope. He commended S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe\u2019s commitment to conserving nature.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mr. Shahid noted that S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe is on the precipice of graduating to a Middle-Income Country, and drew comparisons with the graduation process of the Maldives.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Both sides also discussed other relevant topics,\u00a0such as\u00a0the agenda for the Small Island Developing States, which includes climate change financing, sustainable tourism and\u00a0the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index for SIDS.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The two also spoke about the need for more women representation in public offices, in the context of STPs recent adoption of the Parity Law, and the importance of education and job opportunities for youth.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Foreign Minister\u00a0Edite do Ramos da Costa Ten-Juan,\u00a0and\u00a0Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Resident Coordinator Eric Overvest also participated in the meeting.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The meeting took place in\u00a0the Government Palace\u00a0in\u00a0Sao Tomein\u00a0S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe.<\/p>\n
