Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met\u00a0on 18 August 2022\u00a0with\u00a0H.E Mrs.\u00a0Edite\u00a0do Ramos da Costa Ten-Juan, Minister of Foreign Affairs in S\u00e3o\u00a0Tom\u00e9\u00a0and Pr\u00edncipe.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>H.E Mrs.\u00a0Edite\u00a0do Ramos da Costa Ten-Juan expressed the continued support of S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe to the Presidency of Hope and the priorities identified by President Shahid for the 76th session. She reiterated S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe\u2019s priorities of multilateralism and engagement in the work of the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Foreign Minister highlighted some of the challenges in graduating to a middle-income country, which is expected in 2024.\u00a0She also noted that\u00a0S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe has a high percentage of young people and the demand on the government to ensure decent jobs and sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The President of the General Assembly thanked the Minister for the warm hospitality\u00a0in\u00a0S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe and for the continued support to the Presidency of Hope. He commended S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 and Pr\u00edncipe\u2019s commitment to sustainable development and the fight against climate change. He commended the country\u2019s continued commitment to multilateralism and contribution in addressing various global challenges.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On the issue of graduating to a middle-income country, the President briefed the Minister on the ongoing work on the\u00a0Multidimensional Vulnerability Index for SIDS. He mentioned that the MVI process will be completed\u00a0before the end of\u00a0December 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The President also noted the upcoming COP27\u00a0in Egypt, and the importance of bringing strong commitments to the international conference\u00a0on climate change.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The meeting also touched on COVID recovery\u00a0and the importance of revitalizing sustainable tourism,\u00a0gender equality, and\u00a0Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵCTs support to the upcoming elections\u00a0slated for\u00a025 September.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The meeting took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs\u00a0in\u00a0Sao Tome, S\u00e3o\u00a0Tom\u00e9\u00a0and Pr\u00edncipe.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>18 August 2022<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The President of the 76th\u00a0session of the General Assembly, H.E.
